Abstract: This paper investigates a Luenberger flux observer with speed adaptation for a direct field oriented control of an induction motor. An improved method of speed estimation that operates on the principle of speed adaptive flux and current observer has been proposed. An observer is basically an estimator that uses a plant model and a feedback loop with measured stator voltage and current. Simulation results show that the proposed direct field oriented control with the proposed observer provides good performance dynamic characteristics. The induction motor is fed by an indirect power electronics converter. This indirect converter is controlled by a sliding mode technique that enables minimization of harmonics introduced by the line converter, as well as the control of the power factor and DC-link voltage. The robustness of the overall system is studied using simulation for different operating modes and varied parameters.

Abstract: Electrothermal metasurfaces have garnered considerable attention owing to their ability to dynamically control thermal infrared radiation. Although previous studies were mainly focused on metasurfaces with infinite unit cells, in practice, the finite-size effect can be a critical design factor for developing thermal metasurfaces with fast response and broad temperature uniformity. Here, we study the thermal metasurfaces consisting of gold nanorods with a finite array size, which can achieve a resonance close to that of the infinite case with only several periods. More importantly, such a small footprint due to the finite array size yields response time down to a nanosecond level. Furthermore, the number of the unit cells in the direction perpendicular to the axis of nanorods is found to be insensitive to the resonance and response time; thus, providing a tunable aspect ratio that can boost the temperature uniformity in the sub-Kelvin level.

Abstract: A metasurface unit is designed operating at 2–20 GHz to enhance the gain and radiation performance of an . The unit has a simple structure, stable performance, high permittivity, and can independently modulate two polarization modes electromagnetic waves. We analyze the current distribution on the unit and extract equivalent characteristic parameters to verify the ability of independent modulation on two polarization modes electromagnetic waves. The designed metasurface unit is integrated into the aperture of the AVA and forms the for guiding the propagation of electromagnetic waves. Two types of ML are proposed and integrated into the AVA to design antennas Ant1 and Ant2. The modulation effect of the lens on the electromagnetic wave is analyzed from the perspective of electric field amplitude and phase, and the final design is obtained. From the optimized design results, the AVA and the proposed Ant2 are fabricated and measured, and the measurement results are in good agreement with the simulation ones. The impedance bandwidth measured by Ant2 basically covers the 2–18 GHz frequency band. Compared with the conventional AVA, the gain of the proposed Ant2 is increased by 0.6–3.7 dB, the sidelobe level is significantly reduced, and the directivity has also been clearly improved.
